Changes add three days of early publication and a system-wide shutdown during winter break

At its December 2 business meeting, the Montgomery County School Board approved an amended school calendar for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.

MCPS recognizes that teacher planning time is essential for preparing meaningful and engaging lessons for students every day. To support this, three days of early release have been added to the schedule for this school year to allow significant working time for staff. Wednesday January 12; Thursday March 24; and Wednesday May 18, 2022 are now early exit days for traditional and innovative calendar schools. MCPS pilots a variety of after-school time opportunities with community partners to provide engaging activities for students during the afternoon on early release days.

The district is also adding system-wide closures during the winter break on December 23 and 27 through December 30, 2021, as well as during the spring break on April 13 and 14, 2022. MCPS facilities will be available for one. public use, such as as babysitting and other scheduled events, through the Montgomery County Office for Community Use of Public Facilities (CUPF).

In accordance with the federal and state holiday recognizing June 15, MCPS will also add a system-wide shutdown on Monday, June 20, 2022.

These changes maintain 181 days of instruction and maintain the last day of school as June 15, 2022. It is important to note that MCPS will always exceed the minimum number of hours of instruction required by the state. At the elementary school level, MCPS will exceed the minimum number of hours required by more than 60 hours. At the college level, MCPS will exceed the minimum number of hours required by more than 120 hours. At the secondary level, MCPS will always exceed the minimum number of hours required by more than 30 hours.
