Every family in certain areas of Stoke-on-Trent is in line for a £150 council tax rebate

Every household in certain areas of Stoke-on-Trent could receive a £150 council tax rebate in April.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced that people in council tax brackets A to D will receive rebates funded by government grants, as part of proposals to tackle the soaring cost of living.

More than 115,000 properties in Stoke-on-Trent – 98% of the total – fall within municipal tax brackets A to D, according to the latest estimates.

In some parts of town, like Bentilee & Ubberley, Fenton and Tunstall, every household could be in line for a refund.

But in the more affluent areas of Stoke-on-Trent, which generally have more homes in the upper brackets, the proportion of eligible families is lower. In Trentham East, for example, only 81% of households are waiting for a rebate.

The government says reimbursements will be made directly by local authorities, who will receive additional funding to cover the costs, and that the money will not have to be reimbursed.
